North Carolina the best place in the World
A correspondent of the Weldon News, says:
"When we shall have again reached the borders of North Carolina we will have traversed twenty-five States and Territories, most of them twice, besides the Province of Ontario, in Canada and will have travelled not less than 10,000 miles." We have seen larger and longer rivers than any in our State, broader lakes, taller mountains, higher waterfalls, some more fertile lands, larger cities, better harbors and larger ships in them, more banks with more money in them than with us; we have traversed the continent and stood on the shores of the two great oceans, we have traversed through some of the finest country the sun ever shone on, but take it all in all—we say it candidly—we have seen no better country, no cleverer men, and certainly no handsomer ladies, than are to be found in good old North Carolina.
'Though witlings may laugh at and scorners defame her,
Our hearts beat with gladness whenever we name her.'
North Carolina is good enough for us. We think it ought to be good enough for anybody.
