Full Text

BOSTON, January 26.

The earthquake, on the morning of the 2d instant, was observed at Andover, by a well regulated clock, at about 14 minutes after seven. The noise was like the burning of a chimney. The tremulous motion of the earth was very sensibly felt, and was so great as to jar the windows. The course of it could not be easily determined, though the noise lasted several seconds after the trembling ceased. But its true course and extent can only be determined by collecting the observations from the various parts of the country in which it was perceived; and such a collection, respecting so great and interesting a phenomenon of nature, would certainly be gratifying to the curious.
