A Negro Causes Excitement at Shell.

At Shellman, a few days ago, a negro by the name of Henry Law, under the influence of liquor, got to tussling with John Melton, and the former having a large knife gave the latter a chase through town.

Marshal Cox, seeing the chase, tried to arrest Law, which caused great excitement.

As they were chasing through Crittenden Bros' store Marshal Cox stumbled by some cause and Law, seeing that he had the advantage, jumped on Cox, but as ax handles and 10 pound weights were plentiful the clerks and others kept Law from doing any serious damage.

Under the excitement Law made his escape, but was soon caught in a gully near town and brought back and placed in the guard house.

He was arraigned before Mayor Arthur and fined $15 and costs.

When this is paid he will be turned over to the State for assault with intent to murder.
