Capital Punishment.--We are pleased to see that Mr. Moulton has introduced a bill in the House to abolish capital punishment, and hope the day is not far distant when imprisonment for life will be substituted in Ohio for the brutalizing spectacle of strangling to death a fellow creature.

In Belgium the Death Penalty has been practically set aside since 1830 by commutation of all capital sentences to imprisonment at hard labor, and statistical records show that as executions decreased, capital crimes diminished. Capital crimes so decreased, that from over 70 a year, of which 30 were murders, when the executions were 71 a year, they fell to less than 9 a year, of which but 1 were murders, when none were executed.
