PLAN TO RAISE $500,000 FOR THE UNEMPLOYED OF CHICAGO

Plans for raising $500,000 for the care of the unemployed of Chicago were laid today at a meeting of the city industrial commission at the Chicago Athletic Ass'n.

The solicitation of funds have been laid in the hands of a committee of 100, who will immediately call upon business men of the city to donate.

Mayor Harrison has offered the use of a lot owned by him at Lawrence and Elston avs., which he suggested could be used as a garden where men out of jobs could raise their own vegetables.

Mrs. Leonora Z. Meder, head of department of public welfare, declares other property owners have followed the mayor's example.

The Gary mill of the Illinois Steel Co. will open tomorrow and the officials say they will put 1,000 men to work.
