Small Bills.-Who would believe that the 'democracy and our country' had so soon become ashamed of their small bill law as to attempt to fasten its origin upon the whigs? But it is a fact. The Jackson editors are hunting up old speeches in order to find some whig sentiments in favor of abolishing small bills. The Times and other papers have, in defiance of the fanatical spirit of patent democracy,' actually published something from Mr. Webster, that terrible old federalist, on this subject, thereby showing that the small bill law is one of the hydra heads of the old monster. Well we can't help it. The Jackson men have a queer way of putting their own misfortunes upon the backs of their opponents. They attacked the currency of the country, raised a panic, and then exclaimed, 'thou canst not say I did it!' In our own state they attacked 'small bills, and as they find some of their friends as well as their opponents denounce the measure as a humbug, they are again beginning to exclaim—'Thou canst not say I did it!' It was the Whigs, the rascally federal, Hartford Convention, nullifying, abolition, Church and State, panic whigs that did it!' By next January these patent democrats will attempt to make the whigs father the militia law.-N. H. Pal.
