Census Taking.—It will hardly be necessary here, and yet we do not know that it will be amiss to mention again the object of census taking. Our exchanges show that in some localities the most unlettered of the citizens have fallen into the erroneous belief that the enumeration and collection of statistics is being made with a view to obtaining information whereby the Assessor may be enabled to make a more thorough assessment of property; and fearing some lurking evil or "mare's nest" in the way of taxation, some have refused to answer the questions usually propounded by the Marshal in census taking, and persisted so far as to necessitate their arrest and confinement.

We hope that nothing so unpleasant will take place here, as we believe everyone will be already posted as to the object of census taking, and know that it has nothing whatever to do with any future assessment, and that neither the Revenue Department of the State or general government will ever see the records of the census taker.

This being true, every good citizen should stand ready to give all information possible relating to the resources of his neighborhood, that its wealth and advantages may become a matter of record.
