Horrible Indian Massacre. The atrocious feelings, which the British band of Sacs and Foxes have cherished against the whites of the Upper Mississippi, broke out about a week ago in a most daring insult upon the authority of the United States, the lives of other peaceable Indians. A band of Menominies, at Prairie du Chien, was attacked in the night, while asleep, under the very guns of the United States' fort, and four and twenty were massacred on the spot! Ten more, who were wounded, escaped into the houses of the citizens of Prairie du Chien. Of the massacred, more than half were women and children.—St Louis Beacon, Aug. 15.
