"We are all well, and the Works go on briskly; we have now about 2000 good Troops the Garrison in a good Posture of Defence, besides a strong Intrenchment in Front.- I imagine the Reason of the Enemy's not troubling us is their Reconnoitring Parties have seen the Number of our Vessels we have here, so they must think our Number much larger than they really are, as we have 15 Sail of Topsail Vessels, and them large, besides 20 Sail of Sloops and Schooners.-- This Night a Party of 300 Men marches toward the Bay Vert, to see if they can discover any Motions of the Enemy, and do what Damage to the Roads they can."
