PORTSMOUTH, (N. H.) April 20.

On Thursday last, was taken up at sea, near the Isle of Shoals, the main-mast, boom and sail, of a small schooner, of about 10 or 12 tons burthen; and the body of a man, about 30 years old—he had on a brown pea jacket, with strips of canvas sewed on the seams; a brown fustian under waistcoat, a red baize shirt, inside of which, and next to his body, was one of striped cotton and linen, blue trowsers and drawers, old boots, lately tapped, and light blue stockings. In his pocket were found two papers of the following form, viz.

'Newbury-Port, April 22, 1788. Received of Samuel Sampels, six shillings, lawful money, in full demand of all debts.'

'Newbury-Port, April 22, 1788. Delivered to Henry Jaquith, the sum of six shillings, lawful money, which is the full demand of all debts.'

These papers were not signed, and both were written with the same ink, and by the same hand. The body was decently interred in the burying ground in this town, on Friday last. Some of his clothes, the mast and sail, are ready to be delivered to the owner of the vessel, or to the relations of the deceased. Should this information reach the friends of the deceased, and they wish to know any further particulars, they are directed to enquire of George Gains, Esq. of this town.
