Paid the Woman's Fine.

Man Held for Murder Wouldn't See Her Locked Up.

Kirksville, Mo.: Mrs. Matilda Addison was fined $2 and costs in Justice Carother's court Saturday morning on a charge of disturbing the peace. Mrs. Addison had no money to pay the fine, and was ordered sent to jail.

When the deputy, Frank Parish, went to the jail with the woman, John Robertson, who is under sentence to hang here for murder, inquired as to her trouble. He heard her story and paid her fine out of his pension money.

He said: "I will not see a woman, especially one of family, locked in jail on a little charge like that."

The woman was released.
