Full Text

The Baltimore Convention.

The convention of those who regard the present Administration as the embodiment of American Republicanism, the present condition of affairs as the zenith of National prosperity and happiness and ABRAHAM LINCOLN as the modern Moses and the second WASHINGTON-assembled in the city of Baltimore yesterday. It is, if we are to credit the loyal journals, a heterogeneous collection of free negroes from the South and serfs of the Administration from the North. Its business is to go through the performance of placing the sage of Sangamon in nomination for the Presidency: a performance in which the actors are eminently fit for the work before them. That such a body of men, collected as they have been from the rotten boroughs of the South and the pigeon-holes of Federal offices in the North-each bearing on his neck the collar of an inexorable master-should be entitled to any respect, nobody but the most servile and sycophantic expects. It is a scramble of hungry and reckless politicians for the spoils of the Government, while the nation itself is in the agony of dissolution -a scramble alike devoid of dignity and honor.

A full report of the transactions of the Convention will be found in our telegraph column.
