Full Text
AN inhabitant of Berkeley, who is not entitled to a vote, but deeply interested in the event of the election from a wish to have the County respectably represented in the State Legislature, presents his compliments to the voters of said County, requests them candidly to investigate the characters offered to represent them. Philip C. Pendleton is indubitably a young man of talents— George Potterfield a respectable farmer, both native citizens; these men, assuredly are bound to the country by every tie. John Gray a foreigner, said to be a man of talents, but decidedly a consummate blockhead; Matthew Ransone, young man of few acquirements and those of the lower order, his knowledge and reading extend so far as to know that a still tongue makes a wise head and will not puzzle us with his opinions on political subjects.--Look upon these two pictures drawn from the life-rid yourselves of party spirit-coolly deliberate and decide to which you ought to give your votes ;-must the country be represented by men of talents who will do honour to your selection ;or by blunderbusses who if elected as certain as fate will bring contempt on themselves and you, economy appears to be the order of the day, would it not be cheaper (safer no doubt it would be) to employ some ingenious mechanic to make two Automatons, and have them sent on to represent you, in preference to men so illy calculated for the station they aspire to hold.
