G. R. & I. Must Return Some of Its Lands.

Washington special: Commissioner of the General Land Office Lamoreux rendered a decision in which he made a demand upon the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad Co. for the reconveyance of about 21,000 acres of land situated in Emmett and Charlevoix counties, in Michigan, held to have been erroneously certified to the company under its grant. This demand is made in accordance with the recent ruling of Secretary Smith, holding that the lands were excepted from the grant by reason of being reserved for Indian purposes at the time the road obtained its right.
