Full Text

Mr. Schmidt, mechanician and factor of pianos, rue du Port au Lait, inventor of a machine, by the aid of which one can descend into the sea and draw therefrom any thing wrecked, today made a trial of his machine in the port of Rapee, in the Seine, shut up in a copper man and remained there nearly half an hour.

He received the air at pleasure by a pipe above water. He could converse with those above. The movements of his hands and arms were free. We could distinguish every object.

In short we cannot but applaud his undertaking, and encourage it as promising great utility.
