"The Secret Circular."—Our readers recollect, and the people will not forget, that the loco focos here latterly, just before the election, raised a loud outcry against a circular, which it was pretended was issued a year since by the Whig State Committee, directing manufacturers to compel their hands to vote the Whig tickets, or dismiss them. We denied that such a circular was ever issued, and defied them to produce the evidence of it. They did publish a certificate of a contemptible loco foco, that he had certain knowledge of such a fact; and some men who claim to possess respectability of character, especially a curious politician of this region, not only endorsed the foul and false libel, but openly declared their ability and resolution to prove unequivocally the truth of the charge. We now call upon them in this public manner, and challenge them to establish the truth of their declarations. Let us see, gentlemen, this boasted proof. We charge that the assertion is false, utterly false, and you knew it to be so when you endorsed it. We, however, have pretty good proof that a loco foco manufacturer in this region, prior to the late election, endeavored to persuade some of his hands to vote the loco foco tickets, and in connection with that endeavor dismissed such of them as would not conform to his directions. Consistency is a jewel gentlemen. Shew us your proofs, and ours shall be forthcoming upon the heels thereof.
