Young Sugar Hart, upset conqueror of Ralph Dupas, yelled for a welterweight. title fight Saturday but probably will be matched soon with Vince Martinez for a Philadelphia bout.

Hart of Philadelphia, an 11-5 underdog, won a split 10-round decision over speedy Dupas of New Orleans Friday night before 2,846 paying fans at the Miami Beach auditorium.

The lanky Philadelphian, 22, and ranked second among contenders, weighed 144 1-2 pounds to Dupas' 143 1-2. Dupas, 23, is rated third by The Ring Magazine; but he was favored Friday night because of his experience and elusiveness.

Marty Stein, Hart's manager, pressed loudly for a shot at champion Don Jordan. Stein said to Harry Markson, managing director of the International Boxing Club, "let's sign now for a title fight. Hart's going to be the next champion anyway."

But Markson replied, "let's talk about a possible match with Vince Martinez of Philadelphia."

Martinez of Paterson, N. J., is rated ninth.

Angry Dupas demanded a return bout with Hart. He said, "I licked him last night but I didn't get the decision."

Judge Gus Jacobson had Hart ahead, 96-95 on a 10-point basis. Judge Stu Winston agreed, 97-94. Referee Jimmy Peerless favored Dupas, 98-97. The United Press International gave Dupas an edge, 95-94.

Hart winning his 26th bout in 31 starts, forced the action in every round and landed the harder punches; but fast-stepping Dupas landed the most leather and did the most damage.

Young Sugar Hart, Philadelphia welterweight contender, boosted his chances for a title shot Friday night by winning a split 10-round decision over Ralph Dupas at the Miami Beach Auditorium.

Hart, an underdog at 7-5, landed the harder punches against the more experienced dancing-master from New Orleans. However, Dupas -circling in and out-threw the most leather.

Hart, weighing 144 1-2 pounds to Dupas' 143 1-2, won the votes of the two judges although Referee Jimmy Peerless favored Dupas, 98-97 on a 10-point basis.

A CLOSE FIGHT

Judge Gus Jacobson favored Hart, 96-95, and Judge Stu Winston agreed, 97-94. United Press International had Dupas ahead, 95-94.

It was a close fight.

Hart's right eye was badly swollen and the right brow was gashed bloodily in the second round. His nose bled freely in the ninth. Dupas suffered a nick on his left brow in the 10th session.

There were no knockdowns, but Dupas knees were buckled in the seventh by a left hook. Dupas' best punch landed in the ninth-a left hook that knocked Hart back onto his heels and brought blood to his nose.

Hart, 22, and ranked second among contenders by the Ring Magazine, registered his 20th victory in 31 starts. Dupas, 23 and ranked third by the Ring, suffered his 10th defeat in 75 bouts.
