Against Jitney Man
and Wife Dismissed
Charges that W. C. North, local jitney man, and Gladys North, his wife, sold liquor to Millard L. Lang, an Indian, were dismissed last evening by Bert C. Thomas, United States commissioner, for lack of evidence.
The complaint was brought by Walter G. West, superintendent of the Klamath reservation.
Lang stated to West that he purchased a bottle of bonded whisky for $32.50 at a place in Mills addition and pointed out North and his wife as the persons who sold it to him.
When he went on the stand, however, he refused to identify either of the defendants under oath as the persons who sold him the whisky and the case collapsed.
Lang said on the stand that he was intoxicated when the liquor purchase was made and could not remember the looks of the woman who handed him the whisky.
Lang lives at Chiloquin. He is 22 years old. He said that he did not understand English very well and did not comprehend fully the nature of the charge he was making when he signed the complaint.
