THE RECENT FIRE—There appears to be no doubt whatever that the fire of week before last was the act of an incendiary. This makes the second pretty clear case of incendiarism in Monroe within eighteen months. Have property owners no interest in discovering the perpetrators of such heinous offenses, whereby a whole town is endangered? Whose turn will come next? Shall men be hunted down and incarcerated for years for larceny, and yet no effort be made to punish those guilty of arson? We put these questions to the people of Monroe and to the civil authorities, with the hope that something may be done to render town property more secure.
