Two Men Who Quarreled About a Woman—One Stabbed.
A stabbing affray, which might have been more serious than it was, occurred at Chris Mueller's saloon, on Government hill, yesterday afternoon about 1 o'clock. Two men, one an old government employee named Bennett and an owner of a job wagon, Linscombe, became engaged in a quarrel because Bennett said Linscombe had made remarks about Bennett being improperly intimate with a married woman of his acquaintance. Words led to blows, but the combatants were separated, and Linscombe went out and mounted his horse and started to ride off, when Bennett rushed out and pulled him off his horse. They clinched, and in the struggle Linscombe drew his pocket knife and cut Bennett across the left breast directly over the heart, making a deep gash about six inches in length. The wounded man was cared for and Dr. Lowry summoned, who stitched the wound and pronounced it as not dangerous. Officers Kleid and Buckley were quickly on the scene and arrested Linscombe, who gave bond. Bennett was too ill to be arrested.
