Notwithstanding the main celebration of the National anniversary was conceded to Olympia and large numbers from here visited that place, still very many from the country came to this city and with our citizens did their level best to get the most out of this time-honored day that was possible under the circumstances. Accordingly we had for their divertissement the reading of the Declaration by Prof. Young and an oration by Mr. Heller, on the public square, which latter if we can spare the space we will publish on Monday next, as it was a very creditable paper. In addition to this, there were base ball and rifle-shooting contests, the regatta, (which was all that could be expected in that line anywhere, there being a fair breeze and an animated struggle for the prizes), and a multiplicity of other sports, including the walking of the greased pole, which altogether afforded amusement to throngs of lookers on who were everywhere visible upon our streets.
In the evening a ball at Yesler's Hall wound up the programme.
