NEW YORK.
Our politicians are still doomed to the pains of suspense. So general was the expectation that yesterday's mail would announce the settlement of the question at Albany, that many of the most anxious crowded upon us for the news.
But it came not. "It was werry prowoking," observed a worthy Philadelphian, and we half agreed with him; but as our information was in no degree discouraging, we submitted to our disappointment with more coolness than some others.
To put our readers in possession of all the information we have from Albany, we will give our correspondent's letter in his own words.
Albany, Tuesday Morning, Nov. 9, 1824.
"Last evening a caucus of the friends of Mr. Crawford was held, at which about 70 attended. The object was to strike off the six Clay men on the reported ticket, and to make it a complete Crawford ticket. This was done with great unanimity, and a ticket formed of firm friends of Mr. Crawford. They were driven to this by the refusal of the friends of Mr. Clay to vote for any other than a Clay ticket. The two houses will proceed at noon to day to nominate. In the Senate the Crawford ticket will be nominated over all others. In the other House there will be three, and perhaps four tickets voted for; and no nomination will be made, until one or other of the parties give way. Until each House has nominated a full ticket, there can be no joint ballot, so that it is impossible to say when we shall get to that crisis—I think not till Thursday: Whenever we get to it, I feel a strong confidence in the success of our ticket."
