Full Text
It is a pity, says a correspondent, but what our countrymen would pay less attention to party disputes, or, if they please so to term them, the grand affairs of the nation, and more regard to the fine arts; which, from several late examples, seem to require nothing but due encouragement, to rise equal, if not superior, in England, to what they ever yet have been in the boasted regions of France and Italy. In the St. James's magazine this month, the public are presented with a portrait of Moliere, the celebrated dramatick poet, which, in whatever light examined, cannot but give pleasure to the nicest connoisseur. When we consider the correct beauty of its expression, and the animated boldness, yet delicacy of its design, we cannot scruple to pronounce it a most capital production of an artist who does credit to this kingdom.
