The following is an extract from a letter of unquestionable authority.

"Admiral Elphinston has distinguished himself greatly by his courage and conduct, in beating the Turkish fleet twice with his little squadron, as they were near three times his number; it is greatly to be hoped, he will at last find them out again, and destroy them entirely, they having only escaped him before, by being towed away in calms by their half galleys and boats, but, in the mean time, the brave British Admiral, now a Russian, is crowned with glory. I dispatched honest Captain C--..- this morning for Petersburgh, with the letters for the Court, &c. I have received by this Ship sundry letters for the first time from his Excellency Count Alexey Orloff, the aid Admiral, and others; and greatly rejoice to hear they and all my acquaintance were well, especially Prince Dolgorucky, who was wounded, but is now perfectly recovered, they having lost very few officers in the Mora, none of any great note."
