Miss Georgie Spriggs, of Boston, said to be the oldest living graduate of Hampton Institute, was guest of honor at the Hampton Alumni banquet which was recently held in the Ritz Plaza Hall.
The recipient of many felicitations from alumni and others, Miss Spriggs—who is approaching 90—was presented with a large bouquet from the local Hampton Alumni chapter, tied with her Hampton Class colors.
The presentation was made by the Chapter's secretary, Mrs. Virginia Bailey Jones, amid smiles and handclapping by all
at the banquet table. The surprised elderly-young alumna beamed with thanks.
Although many, many summers have gone by since Miss Spriggs in cap and gown was awarded her Hampton diploma, she still retains a keen interest in the Virginia institute. She has a record of attending Hampton commencement exercises for sixty-six years in succession.
Two years she made the trip by her first flight, which she immensely enjoyed.
Upon her return home the sprightly lady remarked that travel by plane is "the only way to travel".
