European News
Since our last we have received accounts from Europe, via Norfolk which involve intelligence of a very serious nature. A squadron of his Britannic majesty's frigates had been lying in waiting, to intercept the Plata Ships from South-America, and took four, containing twenty millions of dollars! all of which will probably be paraded in waggons through the city of London, amidst the huzzas of a mob, and the Te Deum of the Bishops, who will politically forget that in the attainment of this plunder three hundred unfortunate fellow-beings were prematurely and wickedly hurried into eternity!! This event is in perfect accordance with the system of the English ministers, for the last fifty years, who, whenever their characters were sinking with their own people, resorted to a Spanish war, whether the Catholic king would or not and thus regained their lee way, by making the prospect of a nation's robbery absorb the principles of right and humanity.
