ATTORNEYS SAY
FEE PAID FOR
ROAD ILLEGAL

The fee to be assessed against truck owners who desire the use of North Park drive, which it was proposed to be collected by the East St. Louis park board, is illegal, according to the report of a committee of three attorneys who were appointed by the St. Clair county board of supervisors to investigate the assessment of this fee. The report will be made to the supervisors at their next meeting.

The committee, which consists of John Roberts, East St. Louis; Hugh Bevirt, Caseyville, and John North, Lebanon, was appointed after Joseph A. Miller, supervisor from Smithton, had protested the assessment of the $10 fee for a 2-ton truck and $2.50 for every additional ton, in behalf of a number of small truck farmers in his township.

The committee recommended that traffic policemen be stationed at both entrances to the highway and warn all truck drivers to keep off the drive. If these trucks whose drivers have been warned, should appear again, they will be placed under arrest and fined a sum similar to the fee assessed by the park board, which fine will entitle the truck owners to the use of the highway for a year.

This recommendation has met with the approval of County Highway Commissioner Thomas and the park board, who met with members of the committee.
