Mr. Simons-Dear Sir-We perceive by the opposition papers, that our names were made use of as Delegates to the distress Convention holden at the city of Providence, on the 22d inst. We neither attended the meeting which appointed delegates, nor do we concur in the designs of that meeting. The meeting was composed of but eight men, all of whom are violent opponents to the administration. The use made of our names is without our knowledge and consent, and altogether unwarrantable. We approve of the course of the administration, and consider the re-charter of the United States Bank, and the restoration of the deposites to that Institution, as of the greatest evil, and dangerous to the liberties of the people. We know of no dissatisfaction in our party, and wish our friends in every section of the State not to be deceived, as we continue to be the firm friends of both the State and General Governments.
