FRANCE HOPES AMERICA WILL CANCEL WAR DEBTS

PARIS, Jan. 24-The condition of the French treasury continues "delicate" despite the big internal loan raised in France, M. Doumer, new finance minister, said in an interview Sunday with Le Journal.

He was asked about the possibility of reaching an understanding with England and the United States on France's debts and of raising a consolidating loan. He also was asked his view of the suggestion that France's debts to the allies be cancelled.

"I think America is far more sympathetic to us than is believed," he said. As a new administration is to be installed, let us await March with confidence.
