Closing Session of the Episcopal Convention of the United States.

BALTIMORE, Oct. 26.—The House of Bishops submitted a resolution for the adoption of a canon of the ritual prohibiting the use of any adoring gesture, posture, act, or ceremony not presented in the book of Common Prayer during the administration of the Lord's Supper; also prohibiting the use of any hymns, prayers, collects, epistles, or gospels not appointed in the formularies of the Church. After much exciting discussion a vote on concurring in the resolution proposing such canon was taken, and resulted—Clerical, Yeas 17; nays, 18; divided 4. Laity—Yeas, 18; nays, 12; divided, 3.

Resolutions were passed condemnatory of all ceremonies and observances not expressive of the doctrines explained in the standards of the Church, and that the counsel of the right reverend fathers was adequate to the suppression of all irregular doctrine and the provision of uniformity.

The House of Bishops sent a message to the House of Deputies, assenting to the election of Assistant Bishops in Texas and California; also a resolution concurring with the canon relating to theological education. At 9.30 the Bishops, in Episcopal robes, entered, the entire congregation rising, and after evening prayer they retired, Business being resumed several messages were received from the House concurring with the usual vote of thanks to the officers of the convention and the reporters.

President Craig delivered a valedictory. The convention rose and sang the Gloria in Excelsis, and adjourned sine die, the next session to be held in New York city
