THE ENQUIRER.

LITCHFIELD, AUGUST 1, 1833.

Mr. Webster's Speech.—In the present dearth of news, both foreign and domestic, we know not that we can present our readers with a more acceptable treat than the brief sketch of the speech of Mr. Webster delivered at Pittsburgh, Pa. on his return from his recent tour to the West. The editor of the paper at Pittsburgh who prepared the sketch states that the notes were taken down at the time of the delivery of the speech, and never submitted to the speaker, though he believes they present a faithful sketch. The Pittsburgh Advocate remarks—"The moral grandeur of Mr. Webster's whole reception in the West is very striking—and affords the highest incentive to increased and untiring effort in behalf of the Constitution of his country, by showing how deeply past efforts have riveted him in the admiration, respect and gratitude of his countrymen. For it should be borne in mind that it is not to place—it is not to power—it is not to a political aspirant or a party idol—that these honors have been paid—but to an American Senator, who, disdaining all other ground than the broad one of his whole country, and looking singly at its interests and glory—put forth in a moment of imminent peril to its institutions the powers of his mighty mind to the rescue—and did thereby mainly rescue them."
