An accident occurred Sunday, the 25th in the afternoon, 1-2 mile west of the city limits on U.S. 41, when a car driven by Alice Borde, 19, of Howell Ave. struck one coming from the opposite direction, driven by Joseph James Locke, 53, of 632 Bay St., St. Petersburg.
According to Trooper Sidney Lanier who was on the scene, Miss Borde, who was accompanied by Virginia Lee Whitten, 17, who with her, is employed at the Hernando County Hospital, was driving at approximately 50 miles an hour in a slight rain. She applied her brakes suddenly to avoid hitting a dog which darted in front of the car. The car skidded into the eastbound lane, in front of Mr. Locke's car which was traveling at about 50 miles an hour, and the front of his car struck the side of the Borde car.
Mr. Locke, accompanied by his wife, Beatrice, was enroute to a convention in Jacksonville. They received minor injuries and lacerations. Miss Whitten had a broken right arm and jaw, with other lacerations and bruises, and Miss Borde had many lacerations and bruises.
Her car was damaged to the amount of $1700 - and the damage to the Locke car is estimated at $700.
