DORSET
Grange Notes.

A most interesting and instructive meeting of Washington Pomona Grange No. 8 was held with Mettowee Valley Grange of Pawlet last Friday night, November 22nd. Supper was served to the visitors by the Pawlet ladies at six o'clock. After the long cold ride the hot chicken pie and other good things that went with the pie were fully appreciated and later on in the evening a hearty vote of thanks was given the Pawlet ladies for the bountiful repast served.

At 8:30 the Worthy Master, R. M. Campbell of Dorset called the meeting to order and the regular routine business was disposed of. A class of eight were instructed in the degree work and given the obligation by Past Master E. H. West. By vote of the Grange the lecturers hour was thrown open to the public and the worthy lecturer, Mrs. Rose L. Kent of Dorset presented the following program:

Address of Welcome, Rev. Mr. May, Pawlet: response, E. H. West, Dorset: piano solo, Mrs. Foote, Pawlet: reading, Miss Bruggeman, Pawlet: vocal solo, Miss Crawford, Pawlet: "Raising Tigers," F. F. Gilbert, Jr., Dorset: discussion, Why has Agriculture not been recognized in the conduct of the War as have Labor and Industry? nine speakers: reading, Miss Ruth Warner: drill, Mettowee Valley marching team; reports from Dorset, Wells, Pawlet, and Rupert granges.

Ninety-one members attended and there were five visitors from outside Granges. Members were present from Wells, Rupert, East Dorset and Dorset. Twenty-two attended from Dorset. The work of the Mettowee Valley marching team was remarkably good and other Granges would do well to copy their example. A team of that kind creates an interest in a Grange that nothing else can, as to make the work a success considerable hard work must be done and close attention paid to the leader. Of itself, it is a good training for our younger members as it teaches obedience and attention and keeps the mind alert and ready for quick action.

The next meeting of Washington Pomona will be with Mt. Anthony Grange of Rupert about the second Friday of January.
