ALEXANDRIA. Feb. 19.

We have just received a letter from a correspondent at Pittsburgh, which says, "Since the account published in the Pittsburgh Gazette, respecting Gen. Winchester's defeat at the river Raisin, various other accounts have reached us, corroborative of that most disastrous event. The most authentic intelligence may be supposed to be that contained in a letter from general Perkins, received in town to-day. It states, that the detachment under gen. Winchester consisted of 1200 men. They were attacked by the British alone, and fought bravely till all their ammunition was expended, when they charged with the bayonet, drove the enemy before them, and took 6 pieces of artillery. A large body of mounted Indians now charged upon them, whom they were unable to withstand. They were completely routed and a horrible carnage ensued. 900 are said to have been killed, and the rest, except about 25, taken prisoners. Among the former is general Winchester."
