An exchange suggests that the question of woman suffrage be left to the women to settle—let them decide by ballot whether or not they desire the privilege of voting. The plan would be all right if it should be required that a majority of all the women of voting age to vote in favor of it. If this were required there is not the slightest probability that it would carry. If it were to be decided by the vote cast without some such provision there is not much doubt that it would prevail since a majority never so large of votes not cast would count against a very small minority that would be.
Under the Australian ballot system there is a blank space left beneath every name printed. This space is for the purpose of writing in any name that you wish to vote for. It is immaterial whether that name has been nominated by convention or nomination papers. In this blank space you have a right to insert the name of any person you desire to vote for, and when the name is so written the cross mark (X) must be placed in the square to the left, as no name will be counted unless the cross appears to left of the name. No name is to be scratched.
