PENNSYLVANIA.
Centennial Notes.

Philadelphia, May 14. Fine weather prevailed to-day, and there were a large number of people visited the centennial grounds, a decided increase over yesterday. Car loads of goods are still arriving from all parts, especially from the west. The building most backward in preparation is the Agricultural Hall, which will not be in order for a week. Gilmore's concert, in the main building, this evening, was well patronized. This feature of the exhibition seems to be a happy one, and expressions of gratification are heard on all sides. Many notables visited the grounds to-day. A large meeting of citizens, to protest against the closing of the centennial buildings on Sunday, was held to-night. Addresses were made, and resolutions adopted expressing the opinion that the opening of the exhibition on the first day of the week, either free or at reduced rates, will promote the cause of religion and morality as well as the happiness of the people, by providing a place where all may contemplate the handiwork of creation as well as the achievement of human genius, industry and skill. At the reception to ex-Speaker Blaine, tendered him by Clayton McMichael, at the Pennsylvania Club, this evening, some 200 were present, including some foreign notables. Philadelphia May 14. The centennial commission have done away with the regulation requiring a 50 cent note or a 50 cent silver piece to secure admission. The gates of the exhibition were closed to-day.
