A contest, and a degree of animosity, have for some time past existed in the Maryland State, between Annapolis and Baltimore; the inhabitants of the latter making every possible exertion, and straining every nerve, to have the seat of government transferred from Annapolis, to their town; which has met with strong opposition from the inhabitants of Annapolis, conscious that the desertion and ruin of their city must inevitably ensue. On the 17th ult. a motion was made in the house of delegates of that state, that leave be given to bring in a bill for the above purpose, [i. e. the removal of the seat of government,] and after some debate, it was decided in the negative.
