THE GARFIELD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.

[BY TELEGRAPH TO THE TRIBUNE.]

Washington, Nov. 5.—The Finance Committee and the Committee of Ways and Means of the National Garfield Memorial Hospital held a meeting this evening and received an encouraging report from Mr. Solomons, chairman of the latter committee. Mr. Solomons says that about 40,000 appeals have been sent to clergymen of all religious churches and denominations, and it is confidently hoped that the collections to be made in the churches to-morrow and November 13 in aid of the proposed hospital will amount to a very considerable sum. Secretary Blaine has sent more than 100 appeals to the American Ministers and principal Consuls in foreign countries, and is shortly to make still further efforts to facilitate and stimulate contributions from abroad.
