In the Harbour of Brest there lay a French Fleet of fourteen Ships of the Line, with eight Battalions on board; Admiral Martin with 18 Men of War, eleven of them of the Line, was cruising off that Harbour to watch their Motions. Six Thousand Ton of Shipping was taken up in England for transporting Men into America, and it is thought they are on their Passage, under the Convoy of three Men of War.
