He who ne'er began from Olympian Jove,
Nor touch'd thou, Timotheus, that hallowed lyre,
Which art was attun'd to the chorus above.
By the sapient King, whom high heav'n did inspire:-
The tumult of war, the inebriate dream,
Nor a wanton fair Thais, he chose for his theme:

II.
From a god did descend the theme all profound;
But high o'er Olympus and Ida he reigns:
Tho' the soul-soothing Greek bore no part in the strains?
And thus added refinement to friendship and love.
He music and lore, with old Masonry wove,

III.
Whose stream has unroll'd by time been impell'd,
All hail! sacred source of sublimest delight,
Tho' secrecy's veil, to the true sons of light;
And inspir'd when the waters of Helicon fail'd.
But thine too would fail, if the muse did aspire,
All the glories to sing of that mystical choir.
