LONDON, July 31.

LONDON CORRESPONDING SOCIETY.

The society, pursuant to their advertisement yesterday, attempted a meeting in the fields near Pancras, but by the activity of the magistrates, were prevented from proceeding to business. A crowd, consisting of several thousands of persons, men, women and children, had assembled, at two o'clock, when the act, prohibiting Seditious Meetings, having been read, and some of the members of the society beginning to harangue the populace, they were instantly taken into custody by the constables. The remonstrance, which follows this article, was read no further than down to the words—"Depots of Europe", when the reader was instantly handed down from the tribune.—

On the apprehension of these men, instead of any symptoms of resistance appearing, a panic seemed to seize the whole mass, who ran in every direction, leaving their leaders to their fate, who were immediately conveyed to Bow-street. Among these were Galloway, Binns, Barrow, Ferguson, Sturkey, and Hodgson, men formerly distinguished for their activity.

The only speech pronounced from the tribune, previous to breaking up the meeting, was to this effect: "That the time was at length come to determine whether Bow-street magistrates were to be the sole expounders of law!"—What followed was the brief comment on the text delivered, and the business ended.

For some time a number of idlers loitered about the spot; but at length separated without any recourse being had to force.—

The London shore association, the Westminster foot, and several other volunteer corps, were on duty in the neighborhood.
