BALTIMORE, April 25.
Latest from England.
The Importer, capt. Hall, arrived at this port from Liverpool, sailed on the 6th of March. She brought no papers. We have been politely favored with letters to the day of her sailing inclusive, with an order in council not heretofore published in this country, with Lloyd's lists to the 26th of February.
Extract to a highly respectable house in Baltimore:
"Liverpool, March 2.
The sales of cotton during the last have been very extensive, and the demand continues extremely lively, at 16a18 1/2 for inferior to good; 19 to very prime Uplands; 21 1/2 for N. Orleans; 2s. 3d. a 2s. 10 per lb. for Sea Islands. The confidence of the dealer has been much increased by the limited extent of the recent imports. The demand for tobacco has lately revived, and there is now some enquiry both for the trade and on speculation, at 9 1/2a14 for James River leaf; 11 1/2a14 for stemmed; and 6a12 per lb. for Maryland.
Pot ashes are steady, at 82a83 for Montreal: 83a84 for New York: and 83a85 per cwt. for Bostons of good quality. Pearls are very dull, at 78a80 per cwt. For the best turpentine, 15s 3d a 15s 6d per cwt. may be obtained. Tar is dull, at 17a19 per bbl. Several sales of new flaxseed have been made at 50a52 per hhd. Bark remains without demand, and rice is dull, at 35a42 per cwt. Our last quotation for United States stock was 85 per cent for the new 6 per cent, and notwithstanding large arrivals of dollars in London, the price is steady at 4s 6 1/4 each.
