TIPPOO—of the East-Indies.

A copy of a letter lately sent from Tippoo to the Peishwa, and Nana Furnavese, has been received at Delhi, of which the following is an extract:

"The Peishwa and the Nizam have been forward to lend their utmost assistance to the cause of the English Behunders, in carrying on the present war against the ancient kingdom of Mysore. They have assisted them with their troops and supplies of all sorts; so that two or three of my fortresses have already fallen to their arms: and threaten its immediate downfall.

"Fear is unknown to me:—I am a follower of the true God and his Prophet: I am ready to resist and to fight these unbelievers who attempt to despoil me of my kingdom.—But the issue is with Heaven: and it will be with you to give the cause that has stirred up all this resentment, and occasioned you to join the English for my overthrow.

"I have been, and I now am, and always shall be, ready to pay to you the tribute fixed by my renowned father, as yearly due to your state.

There are now three illustrious houses remaining in Hindoostan; the Peishwa's, the Nizam's, the Mysore of Hyder, now devolved to me, unworthy of such a father: these three houses have subsisted lacks of warriors, who look up to their Sovereigns alone for their support, and that of their sons: where if either of these houses be overturned, shall these warriors, look up for future subsistence? I, unaided by allies, have before this time often gained victories over the English Behunders; and now, although I have three armies opposed to me, yet will Heaven grant me satisfaction on the English—Let the Peishwa answer me on these subjects."
