We have received a communication from State Senator M. Douglas, on the subject of per diem pay. We will give it room next week, as we desire that both sides may be heard, and may make some comments thereon. However much we or others may differ from Mr. Douglas, all are willing to accord to him honesty of purpose.
The great error seems to be concerning the adjourned session being a continuation or a new one. It was an adjourned session, nothing more or less—a continuation of the old one so far as business and its organization was concerned; a new one as regards a resumption of labor. But we will notice this point more fully next week. Meanwhile in the discussion of this or any other question, let both sides be heard, let their arguments be fairly weighed and courteously considered. The great body of the people will have to determine this matter, and in their verdict we have an abiding confidence.
