Full Text

Mr. Sholes of the Wisconsin House of Representatives has introduced a bill providing amongst other things, "that after the 4th of July, 1849, no individual shall become possessor of more than one hundred and sixty acres of agricultural land, or in lieu thereof, of more than two village or city lots, or of more than one dwelling house, and one building for trade, or business, in this state, nor of any portion of land whatever, except for the purposes of his or her actual use and residence, as a citizen of the state."

If the "Farmer of Grant," were there, he would move to amend by inserting 1,000 acres instead of 160—unless he has lately disposed of his own extra acres.
