BY "PETER."

The Tacoma Athletic club, organized last year by alumni of the Stadium High school as a protest against the school board's anti-inter-city athletic edict, is to become a permanent institution.

Young men behind the club will revive it before the middle of September, and will develop it into a regularly organized athletic club. It is planned to start on a comparatively small basis, but with an ultimate object of developing the club into an institution similar to the Seattle Athletic club, the Spokane Athletic club, and the Multnomah club in Portland.

Leo Horeis, former Stadium football star, and prime mover in the Tahoma Athletic club last year, has been feeling out the sentiment of Tacoma's sport-loving young men during the past few weeks, and he believes that a group of such fellows as were members of the club last year can push the thing through to a successful, permanent institution.

Last year the club was formed as a back-slap against the school board's ruling against inter-city athletic contests. It had a poor organization, because the idea was new, and because all the team members were donating their time and efforts, it was impossible to demand regular practice work, and almost impossible to get a full team together for scheduled games. The club lost money as a result.

plan to take into the club all men interested in athletics. They will obtain office space in a down-town building and start a campaign for funds with which to begin construction of a club house.

If the membership is made attractive in this manner, it is believed that regular attendance of team members at practice can be demanded, and that outside teams can be promised that all scheduled games will be played off.

The football team will be organized within three weeks, in order that it can get into proper condition for a full schedule of games this fall. Track teams, and indoor athletic teams will also be organized later, according to present plans.

Tacoma is the right size for a lively, non-religious athletic club.

It looks as though the Stadium Alumni boys, if they go at things properly, will make a big success of their endeavor. Any persons wishing to join the club or to obtain further particulars concerning it, should communicate with Horeis.
