Saturday last about one o'Clock, came to Town by Land from Providence, his Excellency FRANCIS BERNARD, Esq; with his Majesty's Royal Commission to be Captain-General, Governor and Commander in Chief in and over his Majesty's Province of the Massachusetts-Bay; as also a Commission from the Right Honourable the Lords of the Admiralty, to be Vice-Admiral of the same, &c.-----His Excellency embarked from his late Government of New Jersey on board the Massachusetts armed Sloop last Tuesday, and arrived at Rhode-Island on Wednesday Evening, and the next Morning proceeded from thence to Providence, in a Passage Boat provided for that Purpose, accompanied by the Hon. Mr. Secretary Oliver, who waited at Rhode-Island to attend him: from Providence his Excellency set out on Friday afternoon, and lodged at Wrentham that Night, and from thence set out early the next Morning, escorted by a Party of the Troop of Horse Guard, detached thither for that Purpose; and was met at Dedham by the Remainder of the Troop, and several of his Majesty's Council; and on the Road from thence, by a great Number of Gentlemen from Town in their Coaches and Chariots, and proceeded to the Province House, (where the Company of Cadets were drawn up) and received the Congratulations of a Number of Gentlemen who had repaired thither on this Occasion: from thence his Excellency walked in Procession to the Court-House, being escorted thither by the Company of Cadets: The Regiment of Militia in this Town being under Arms, and drawn up in the Main-street, he received the Compliments of the Officers, by their paying the standing Salute as he passed by, and the Windows of the Houses, &c. were crowded with Spectators on the Occasion.

His Majesty's Commission to his Excellency, as also that from the Lords of the Admiralty, were opened and publickly read in the Council Chamber, and the usual Oaths administered by his Honour the Lieutenant-Governor; after which he was congratulated by the Council and a great Number of Gentlemen there present; which was followed by three Huzzas, and a Discharge of three Vollies from the Militia, &c. as also a Discharge from the Guns at Castle William, and Batteries in this Town and Charlestown, and from the Ships in the Harbour; after which his Excellency, with the Gentlemen of the Council, a Number of Officers and other Gentlemen, were entertained with a handsome Dinner, provided at Faneuil-Hall for that Purpose.
