Receives News Of Father From Exchange Prisoner
Miss Kay Hendry, recently returned from spending the summer in Arkansas has had indirect news from her father, Robert Hendry, within the last few days. Mr. Hendry was in Manila when war was declared and had not been heard of since last Christmas.
Although she has not yet received any details, Miss Hendry heard from one of the exchange prisoners from Manila who arrived on the Gripsholm that her father was interned with 2500 American and British who were in the city at the time of Jap occupation.
Two people, both women, are the only ones who have thus far been brought back to the United States from his particular internment camp. Mr. Hendry was reported to be in good health and getting along fine under the circumstances.
Life magazine said that the conditions at Santo Tomas in Manila were the best among internment camps in the Far East.
Miss Hendry has been spending the summer with her mother, Mrs. Mildred Hendry, who is house mother at the Delta Delta sorority at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
She has returned to her grandparents' home in Coolidge preparatory to continuing school at the University of Arizona.
