A recent visit to this institution, which is located near Baltimore, convinced us of the great work it is doing for a large number of boys who need kind, but strict supervision. The average number of boys in the school during the past year was 513; there are nine class rooms; eight greenhouses; and a brush and broom factory was added last September. Each department of labor is scrupulously clean, while the household department would cause exclamations of delight to be uttered by a good female housekeeper. In addition to a large recreation room there is a well-fitted gymnasium. There is a fine band, an orchestra, a fife and drum corps, and a vocal class of 200. Attached to the school is a farm of 158 acres of excellent land, under a high state of cultivation. The whole is in charge of the Xaverian Brothers, with Brother Dominic as superintendent. Mr. G. S. Griffith, President of the Maryland Prisoners' Aid Association, and well-known to many of our readers, says of it: "It is moulding character for the city and State, and deserves, as it enjoys, the confidence and support of all good citizens."
