Full Text

A Correspondent remarks, that the Bishop of Gloucester has been so fortunate as to discover (and in his Treatise on Grace too) that Honours are the true Foundation of Virtue. He says, "Honourable and Right Honourable Personages have the Seeds of Virtue naturally in them." Upon this Principle, so worthy of a Dignitary of the Church, Men are good and virtuous in exact Proportion to their Rank; consequently all the poor Curates in the Kingdom are great Scoundrels, in the same Degree that his Lordship is humble, generous, humane, and pious; and the King of Prussia, instead of being the Cartouche, or the Bolingbroke of Europe, is a better Man than any in his own Dominions, and upon a Footing even with the best of Princes.
